These haunting photos by Autochrome pioneer Mervyn O’Gorman are 102 years old
From the article :
“IT’S a beautiful, dreamy shot of a young girl in a red cape sitting on a beach that wouldn’t look out of place on Instagram or within the pages of a fashion magazine.
It might surprise you, then, to learn that this image is part of a collection of photographs taken more than a century ago by British amateur photographer Mervyn O’Gorman featuring his daughter Christina.”
Amazing what he was able to capture technically and artistically with such primitive technology. That alone makes the series of images intrinsically interesting. But most importantly the series highlights the power of photography to freeze a moment in the transience of life, something which is less evident now that people are constantly snapping every moment with little time for nostalgia between images.
