Author Lee Kofman, 41, says society turns a blind eye to people having affairs, but is appalled at the idea of honest, open multiple relationships.

Her decision to write the book The Dangerous Bride, about non-monogamous relationships, was met with disapproval, even from people she thought were free thinkers.

“To cheat is bad, to be faithful is good, but if you cheat you can become faithful again. There is this possibility of redemption,” she says.

“Adultery is a kind of safe risk-taking. It is not as socially abhorrent as non-monogamy, which is a grey area — there are so many shades, things to negotiate all the time, nothing is certain — who do I see more? That is why it is difficult for society to accept it.”
