From HOP:

Talking to teenagers about sex is difficult – no one wants to do it but everyone agrees it is necessary. But for millions of teens, both in the US and elsewhere, sex education is taught in a wholly counterproductive way.

The problem is abstinence-only sex ed. There are still many public schools that teach abstinence-only-until-marriage despite the astonishing amount of research that has proven such methods to be ineffective at accomplishing its goal of kids waiting until marriage, as well as having larger consequences.

Teenagers are going to have sex – that has been a well observed phenomenon for all of history. According to the CDC, 47 percent of teenagers have had sex, a number that doesn’t change much year to year. To teach them a curriculum that is based on preventing them from doing so is waste of both time and tax payer money.
